Another Black Hero!
A mom and her child were trapped on the third floor of an apartment complex that was engulfed in flames. A man outside three stories below yelled, “Throw the baby down!” That’s when you see a man in a red shirt run as fast as he possibly could to where the baby began to fall. This man is Phillip Blanks, he is a retired Marine and former football player for Saddleback College in California.
He noticed what the mother was preparing to do and he bolted to where the other man was trying to prepare to catch him, thinking that, that man wasn’t going to be able to catch the child.
“Instinct. There wasn’t much thinking. I just reacted. I just did it. The guy who was there with me… It looked like he wasn’t going to catch him. So that’s why I stepped in. I just wanted to make a better catch.” Catches don’t get much better or as close as that. The falling 3 year old was caught just in time and saved by Phillip.
Although her 3 and 8 year old made it to hospitals, and were treated for injuries that are not life threatening, their mother sadly did not make it out the fire. “She’s the real hero of the story, because she made the ultimate sacrifice to save her children.” Although I agree, she did make a heroic sacrifice, I think without Blanks there would’ve been 2 other tragic losses.
