GET READY FOR SOME BULLS***. Frederick Douglass Statue Torn Down by Racists!!!
On July 5th, 168 years after Douglass made his speech, “What to a Slave is the Fourth of July,” Douglass’s statue was ripped from its base and moved 50 feet to edge of Genesee River gorge. His speech throwing shade at the holiday calling the celebration a sham since the nation still enslaved and oppressed BLACK PEOPLE! HE CALLED THEM ON THEIR BULL THEN, AND HE STILL RIGHT TODAY!
The statue was originally located, before wrongfully displaced, at Maplewood Park along an underground railroad where Douglass and Harriet Tubman led slaves to freedom. After being ripped from the ground, Police stated that the base and a finger were damaged.
It’s no surprise, honestly that our small victories have some retaliation from racists. The removal of confederate monuments have caused a great stir and yet again this seems like another protest to our protest. We yell Black Lives Matter and they yell back All Lives Matter. So small victories are great but this act of removing the statue shows there is still a lot of work to do.
Funny how we take down brutal genocidal, slave holding racists, and they take down the number 1 male abolitionist known GLOBALLY.
